We hear a lot about “toxic masculine energy” today, but do we understand it on an energetic level?
And do we hear about “toxic feminine energy?” Yes, that’s a thing. A big thing!

From my experience as a healer and my training in Tantra and Kundalini Yoga, I know we all have Divine Energy. It’s our birthright. It’s inherent. It’s the life essence-type energy at the very root of our experience as human beings.

It can make us feel vulnerable to judgment and shame, however, because it’s rare in our culture to let go of the ego. It means dropping our fabricated personas and the facades we hide behind, which we think make us safe.

No human is comprised entirely of feminine or masculine energy, or divine or toxic energy, so this concept can get complicated.

Divine Energy is pure and directed towards our greater good, our growth and healing, and uplifting us as humans. What do I mean by pure? When you connect to it, things are simple and direct. Decisions are easy (although following through with them may be difficult).

We know when we are in our Divine Energy.
It is soul energy.

When our energy turns toxic, through life experiences, trauma, ego-play, and human insecurities and emotions like fear, anxiety and shame, it has one purpose: control.

It’s easy to check our actions, desires and impulses by simply asking, “Am I trying to control something or someone or have power over something or someone?”

One of the more obvious examples is jealousy. Jealousy isn’t a divine emotion, nor is it natural. It occurs when we feel something is out of our control, and we’d prefer to be in control.

Although they have been labeled Masculine and Feminine, the energies are simply different. We’ve learned to categorize them for an easy way to gain clarity.

BOTH are necessary and complimentary. One can’t express itself fully without the other.

What Does Toxic Energy Look Like?

When masculine energy turns toxic, it may become demanding, overly directive, aggressive or raging. It may exhibit coldness, become withdrawn, use blaming and shaming language, and exhibit the attitude of “I have a right to [fill in the blank].”

Contrast this with Divine Masculine Energy, which creates safety, listens on many levels, is supporting, encouraging, and committed to truth, and can be deeply present without a goal.

When feminine energy turns toxic, it may exhibit itself as jealousy, manipulation, insecurity, desperation or “back-stabbing” behavior. It may appear overly needy, play victim, ridicule others or chase love.

Contrast this with Divine Feminine Energy, which constantly creates and manifests, flows and dances, understands surrender, is intuitive, inventive, authentic and playful.

Our Divine Energy is always connecting to our soul-level sustaining energy which, if unblocked, is a continual source of pleasure, vitality and happiness in life.

The trick is awareness first, then taking mindful action.
