teaches and fosters conscious sexuality, the sweet spot where lovers can find greater sexual fulfillment, connect on many layers, and build relationships which expand and grow over time.
This ideal state of conscious sexuality is where body and soul connect mindfully and the judgmental, evaluating mind is excluded. It allows us to play in profound pleasure. As we play and learn, we are called to be our most authentic selves – open, honest, real, raw, expressive.
Excluding the overthinking mind is crucial. Developing this ability to calm and slow the mind enhances every aspect of life where self-judgment and self-criticism inhibits us from living our truth and developing to our full potential.
We live in a world where we’re encouraged to let the intellect control everything, and this often leads to us following the demands of the mind rather than the heart and soul. The intellect is valuable for calculating a math problem or building a career, but putting the focus there can exclude the profound messages of the heart, soul and body.
Despite the proliferation of readily available information about sex, free pornography, and the constant indoctrination into a narrow “ideal” of sexuality to sell everything from beer to diamonds, most of us know very little about the subject.
Our culture conditions us from an early age to avoid, fear or make sex taboo. When we repress our sexuality through shame and guilt, or hide and subvert our very human sexual desires, it can emerge in inappropriate ways or become buried in the deep freeze for years, decades, even whole lives.
Denying this completely natural human need for physical connection and expression isn’t healthy physically, mentally, emotional or spiritually.
is devoted to expanding sexual desire and fulfillment for everyone. Despite over-busy lives, societal judgment, challenging careers, childrearing and a thousand other concerns, our natural sexual expression is calling us to find deeper meaning and contentment in life.
The Influence of Tantra
Tantra is a 5000-year-old spiritual tradition which fully accepts the body’s sensuality and desires as a pathway to self-realization and awakening.
Many spiritual traditions view the twin desires for pleasure and spirituality as mutually exclusive. It’s an either/or dilemma where we can be spiritual while sublimating our natural needs, or indulge the body’s senses and live separate from spiritual connection. This creates an internal struggle, separating us from our true nature and creating negative emotions like guilt, shame and suffering.
We do not have to renounce pleasure in order to reach self-realization or give up spiritual practice in order to indulge in sensual pleasures. Tantra offers an alternative path – using the energy born from our natural sensual desires to reach altered states of consciousness (often called bliss).
Sexual energy is the most potent force in our human lives and conscious sexuality helps channel this immense resource by acknowledging our sensitivity (we all know and feel more than we think!) and living deliberate lives fully focused in the moment.
The continuous expansion of our pleasure and the resulting feeling of connectedness contain the power to transform us, not only on a subtle level, but in the tangible way we experience ourselves, the way we give and receive, and our ability to offer ourselves completely, recognizing Divine presence within.
Tantra offers the promise of living every moment gracefully channeling love flowing through the heart.
